I believe you could do that. But considering the cost of 3 separate sets of speakers plus the crossover versus a 3-way component setup, which includes the crossovers, I don't think it's worth the compromise. Unless you already have the coax speakers, then it might be worth the shot. You may have a tough time tuning everything correctly though.
