Their own fault as they have done next to nothing to promote them and the only people that have a clue they exist are "car folks".

Strangely enough though, I was reading around and a lot of car magazines that had people knowledgeable in actual sales numbers looked it up and most of the "no one is buying them" was complete horse sh*t made up / misinterpreted by people. They exceeded sales projections substantially in almost every single sales period, Toyota just made a lot of those suckers. That being said, if you are in the Midwest in a non metro area, I can see the 86 platform being hilariously unappealing to a normal person who needs their car to hold things that aren't tiny, tiny babies in the back, or perhaps a moderately large sandwich.
I own a 2015 and love it.
