This "shut off" is called a governor, or "electronic speed limiter". The triplets are not equipped with a governor. They are "drag limited" meaning they lack the horsepower to overcome aerodynamics to go faster than a certain speed. There are many factors effecting this as well as modifications etc. Make more power, go faster. The manual is geared to approximately 168mph at 7500rpm in 6th, so if you have the power to go that fast (most turbo cars probably do), then you're limited by gearing.

GM Trucks are limited at 99mph, Charger R/T's to 125mph, Charger R/T with R/T or Police package to 157mph, Charger SRT8's are drag limited. Most European cars are electronically limited to 155mph for legal reasons in Europe.
