There are crickets with my old 2.0T BPY during cold starts, which goes away and get replaced by your so-called *normal HPFP clatter* only when then engine has been running for some time. Not confused at all when I've had the car for almost 7 years not sure what you are smoking.
I've had crickets on my BRZ when the weather wasn't hot. It's just more prone to crickets when the weather gets really hot but not a rule of thumb.
Maybe you come from a parallel universe.
