I don't think he's being harsh. 6 hours trying to diagnose isn't exaggerated, not to mention other people trying to help. Wayno, not run into cache problem as i set clear browser exit. however that can be a drama.
My suggestion would be a pop up widow or similar after each update that says "Please Check OFT Downloads Site for New Template file"
Now were getting constructive
