I've seen ghost emblems on FR-S's that were debadged 4 months after purchase...or 6 months after production.
These cars are on boats for a while so that's probably where the initial fading begins. Plus they sit at the port for a while too. By the time you buy your car, it's not the paint that becomes etched with the emblem, it is most likely the clear coat.
That's why if you polish it correctly, you should be able to eliminate the ghost marks.
You shouldn't have any problems with the actual base color after a year.
