I can't say I've ever heard the sound tube effect.
Sound tube removal was mod #2 after hood struts and I had driven it zero kms
I test drove one in Aug 2012 but didn't know what to listen for.
I have had 3 drives in stock FRS - pbrown, dolo and Slick's - I never thought of listening for different sounds.
At least they are using a passive system - imagine buying a BMW 5-series and having fake engine sounds piped into the sound system??
I like hearing my snorkel-less Takeda intake and the catback sounds. I rarely drive with the windows up tight too - I've cranked the heat up to keep the windows open
