Heres my experience with tpms on my car, i own a 2014 brz premium:
i have a set of rpf1's that i swapped my stock tpms sensors on to and i recently had my rims powdercoated so i had to use my stock wheels with no tpms. The wierd thing though is my sensor lights never went on as a warning in the 5 days that i had no tpms! At first i thought it was broken but the sensor turns on for a second as i turn on the ignition. Could it be broken? So as a trial when i got my rpf1's back i deflated one wheel to a low psi and sure enough the warning light turned on that my tires are flat. Long story short maybe we dont need extra sets of tpms may the tpms is designed to just recognize low tire pressure if the sensors are present and if not it doesnt activate.
