It is brain dead simple if you use Harry's Lap Timer.
Just select the lap and hit the overlay button. Done.
The phone GPS isn't as accurate as the external GPS units like in the AIM units but it has been really helpful for me. It also supports using an external GPS for higher accuracy, which I might consider for next year.
