You made the right choice as the 1JZ is 100% impossible to legally smog as it's an engine we never got here. The 7M has a chance (though very slim) of passing if you can get it back to semi stock looking.
Not a fan of white or pre-89's (though it looks to be mostly converted to 89+), but it's kind of pointless to buy a car you can't smog
Only things of note on the new car:
- Watch your temps as the aftermarket electric radiator fans are garbage and don't flow anywhere near what the stock mechanical will.
- PCV system looks like it's just vented. True PCV system helps a hell of a lot on these motors.
