We don't shut down, we just use purpose built winter tires
I figured out standard pretty quick living in this climate. Started driving stick in August 07, drove my first winter with All Season tires (worst idea ever by the way) and when my second winter came I had enough for good winter tires and driving was so much better, not to mention a lot safer!
