Got married three years ago. Husband's dad does this kind of thing for a living, so tent, food and cases of champagne were on him. My dad is a pastor, so he did the ceremony. My mom is a seamstress, she made my dress. Coworkers were building a photography portfolio, so they did our shoot for $300.
Venue (local heritage site) - $350
Fancy custom rings with family stones + daily driver rings (tungsten carbine on ebay for $20!)- $2200
Cake - $300
Wedding party gifts (one maid of honour, one best man) - $200
Croquet set (it was a summer afternoon garden party type thing, so no dancing or DJ, just drinking and croquet) - $40
Invitations/thank you cards - $90
Flowers - $175
All that plus misc stuff that always pops up - about $4000. We paid cash for everything.
My point is that when you plan well, utilize the resources around you and focus on what is most important to you, instead of getting caught up in all the details, you can have a beautiful and memorable day without spending a lot of money. Good luck!
