While I agree that some people can learn lines while playing a racing game Like Forza or GT, there are certain things that sims do not communicate well.

Things like tire noise. Tires communicate to the driver when they are at their limit in various degrees.

G-force. When cornering you can feel when the car is at the edge. That feeling combined with the tires communicating provide a great deal of information to the driver that I personally feel games do not execute well.
