Hey guys!
I appreciate your interest in how I did my interior.
To answer your questions: I pulled the stitching by using a seam ripper, it can be found at most craft stores. You slide the seam ripper under the red threads and cut it. Then pull the thread out loop by loop. I primary used a small curved needle for most of it hand stitching everything using the holes that were already made from the factory. The only hard stitched things were the zippers on the back (which I used a sewing machine for) and the red fabric in the shoulder bolsters( also used a sewing machine). I used 4 strands to make the upholstery thread thicker when I threaded the needle. You can get upholstery thread from most craft stores as well. I just matched the color to the zippers I found at the same store and the new fabric for the bolsters which I used a faux leather/vinyl material for. I decided to keep the parallel pattern for the stitching going side by side for the steering wheel because I feel it looked better and was easier. You will need to peel the leather back from the steering wheel btw, once you finish stitching it you need to re glue it down. We used 3m weatherstripping gasket and painters tape to hold it back in place. I would say I'm proficient in sewing as I have done so most of my life but my husband is not. He has done a little here and there for clothing repairs but he has never done something to this degree. I've sewn stuffed animals and full body costumes so I am used to it. I recommend using a sewing machine for the hard stitched zippers and shoulder bolsters as they will get more wear. Hope this helps and tell me if I missed anything!
