As I have stated here before, VPower here in Oz has NO ethanol and up until recently (the fuel of choice & nothing but) never had any crickets. As soon as I temporarily switch to a Caltex 98 whatever they call it over here - voila, instant crickets ! A small percentage of E seems to be the catalyst to the noise.
And for the record & during the last 5000kms I have only been using E70-E85 fuel (variation cos of the cold weather otherwise E85) - NO crickets !
