Just make sure you compare operating costs so you know what you're getting into. An M3 is going to cost a lot more to keep up than an FR-S, and the initial purchase price is of course higher, too. You get what you pay for usually, but the FR-S does offer an awful lot of smiles per gallon!
Honestly if I had to do all over again and both were NEW I'd go M3 again but in the OP's used scenario I would go FR-S even knowing how much fun I had in the M3. I just couldn't justify owning the used and possibly abused M3 outta warranty over this FR-S that I NOW know is an absolute barell of fun.
