A lot of cars these days are coming with decent Autos though. Surprisingly, sometimes you even see quicker cars as an auto instead of the manual. A new Ford Fiesta jumps to mind (even though the Auto has problems) as being quicker through Autocross testing then a manual. I think the reason for this was explained by the Auto being able to use the small amount of torque more effienctly then a manual.
The FR-S also is using the auto from an IS-F (or atleast tech from it) and surprisingly a lot of people like it. They say it actually shifts really quickly and smoothly. Most recently, Jalopnik test drove an FR-S and actually liked the manual more then they thought.
So even though I'm not buying one, the auto doesn't seem that bad at all. Its only the EVO guys who didn't like the Auto so far.
