I beg to differ on getting into 1st. When hooning it, coming into a hairpin you can get into 1st at 20mph if you want, without any damage. Just don't force it in and rev blip will make the clutch lift less abrupt.
The syncro on 1st is always a little tight to remind you not to shift into first or to prevent you from grabbing 1st accidentally when you wanted 3rd.
2nd to first at 20mph IS a valid use case though if you are driving on the limit and intend to get the tail out round a hair pin bend.
