For some reason there is a circle of thought out there that the 1JZ outflows the 2JZ, however every flowbench test shows that the 2JZ is about 10% better. There is a difference between the ports of the early twin turbo 1JZ and the later single turbo VVT-i 1JZ, and the myth may come from the newer 1JZs.

However I'm hoping the later VVT-i 2JZGE heads out-flow the early twin-turbo 2JZGTE heads. But it may not matter if I do (or get done) a porting job.

As for why not 2JZ bottom end? The 1JZ is pretty much just as strong, but there is more stress on it to make the same power because it is smaller. I'm only looking for a high 400 to low 500 to the wheels with a HIGH redline. The shorter stroke allows this with less stress on the rods and their bolts. And there is nothing like the sound of a high-revving 1JZ.
I'd def go with the porting on a 2jz-gte head, either way, I know I love my I-vetc on the civic and with tuning you could change the rpm in which it kicked in, and once I turbo'd it and the I-vtec was fixed it was like an extra 30-40 whp after 5400 it was pretty cool
