There is going to be some risk of making a mistake/being sloppy and getting dye on something you don't want.

I would get a small blunt hypodermic syringe/needle and put the dye in it. Very carefully and gently ease a little out at a time over the threads..

It will be very time consuming but the best and most acurate way to do so without worrying about a small tipped brush etc just be easy on the plunger.
