It can't squeeze. It's sitting flush in the damper's groove. That said, I can pop it out, put it in the groove inside the perch, then slide the perch/ring down the damper.
I won't be able to get it off after that though. And I'd really hate for that to be the wrong way...

Yeah, I may just install it sitting on top and if it's funny/too high. I can always go back and install it with it sitting in the perch. That said, the instructions only say to compare the stock damper height vs the install height. So I guess I'll know once I have them side by side...

IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED with BILSTEIN USA that the spring seat sits on the ring.
