All I'll say is I'm making well north of 50k/year but I drive a 16 year old Outback with almost 300k miles because COLLEGE LOANS/MOVING EXPENSES/BILLS/COST OF LIVING IN A BIG CITY/...
I thought for sure when I took this job that I'd be buying a new BRZ first thing. Then I figured out that I was finally making enough to pay all my bills and stuff and still have a little bit left over... which technically could probably eek me out a BRZ, but actually makes much more sense putting towards paying off all my loans and stuff.

As someone recently out of college, I have to agree with everyone here: you don't realize how much it costs to live on your own until you do... and its always more than you thought it would be. Until you're living on your own and paying all of your expenses, I'd be wary of committing to a new car payment. Wouldnt you rather work on becoming more independent? Trust me, no matter how much you think it might suck paying your own bills, it's still a fantastic feeling when you can tell your parents, "Yeah. I'm good. I got this." Not to mention your parents will be happy to see you starting to live more independently. You sure they'd be happy seeing you buy a new car while they're paying all your bills? It's not really the "responsible" thing to do. Make sure they're totally OK with that first.

But hey, if it works for you, go for it. I only wish I was so lucky!
