Doesn't matter if it's lighter than OEM or not. Is it out of the weight range as specified in the Owner's Manual?
If so, then OP got lucky and others will be wise to not repeat the same.
If not, then it's a communication issue between the dealer and the regional rep... and the dealer service manager is still on crack for making an assumption that a lighter (but within spec) oil is a contributing cause.
