Dammit so I ordered the STI short shifter but it's not here yet.
The BRZ technical manual says in order to set the reverse lockout plate, put the shifter into 2nd gear, slip a 1.0mm shim in-between the plate and the shifter and then set the 4 screws. If shifting from 1st to 2nd cannot be done properly, then use a 0.8mm shim instead. Okay so I bought myself a metric feeler gauge and grouped 0.8mm and 0.2mm shims together. Wolf one down.
Then it says I need the following two types of grease:
Permalub ECN-9
Nigtight LYW No. 2
Like where the hell am I gonna find these grease? The Toyota parts counter just gave me a funny look and said "no".
Would SuperLube grease do the job? It's rated for -45F to 450F in temp and it's not petroleum based. Should be okay right?
Then there's the dust boot on the shift fork part I need to figure out. I've already bought a spare washer and cotter pin from Toyota. The STI shifter comes with a new dust boot and said to replace it. This part just baffles me it looks tough.
