Sounds like a bad strut bearing.

Whiteline had a shit ton if issues with this, despite using the same bearing as the stock mounts. I'm pretty sure it was due to the bearing not being installed at the correct angle. They tried to make the mount work in three different positions, to appeal to as many people as possible. But the point loading caused by the angle of bearing and durameter of the rubber caused them to fail. Long story short, these cars seem to be very sensitive to minor issues with strut bearings.
