The on/off throttle could wear on it over time I suppose, but Subaru engines definitely don't have an issue running at high revs for long periods of time. They are a very popular engine for experimental aircraft because of the boxer configuration. In that environment they run at about 90% of RPM for hours on end with no issues. I've flown with them in both a gyrocopter and a fixed wing airplane, and would not hesitate to do it again.
