That must've been a California thing. Where I grew up in the south, the dominant street racer out on the strip was a '68 Shelby GT500. Nobody could beat that guy, but there were a couple of late 60s Camaros with big blocks hot on its heels. The hot new cars at the time were the Buick Grand National, the Olds Cutlass 442 (which we had) and the Hurst Olds.

American iron was where it was at. Nobody took ricers seriously at all.
