Others can speak more fluently/accurately to this, but it's basically that the motor is lugging at low rpm and if you go WOT at low rpm, it puts a lot of strain on the motor.

Such a thing is VERY noticeable if you would go WOT at, say 700 or 1000 rpm. Not as noticeable at 2000 or 2500, but it's still there.

If you went WOT at very low rpm on a carburated small bore dirt bike (for example), you might even stall the motor because you created a very rich condition. I assume that the computer and injectors on a fuel injected vehicle attempt to compensate for the condition - which I assume is what fenton meant when he said that:

"Your car is freaking out and setting the engine load to 5(max) and also setting ignition timing to 0."
