There are two mainstream types of touch screens, Capacitive and Resistive. Capacitive are the extremely sensitive type (like on a smartphone). Resistive aren't quite as responsive/sensitive, but unlike Capacitive, they CAN be used while wearing Gloves, which is why they usually use the Resistive type in automotive applications.
