If your trans is very resistant to shift 1st to 2nd to 3rd and you are in a colder area Pentosin is a VERY good option to test. If you are getting notchiness when warm or problems with 4-5 or 6th it probably won't do anything.
Also we're forgetting the biggest variable of them all; the driver. The "performance" of the oil is all feel and opinion of the user and after dumping 100 bucks and a couple hours of time replacing fluid with something name brand, its easy to let placebo effect skew opinion on how well the oil is actually working. I think the quoted bit in bold is a fair assumption as peoples results have been fairly consistent with that statement
