I use the shifter quite a bit. I've never been too fond of where they stick the paddle shifters on most cars. My old MKV GTI had paddles as well and I rarely touched them. I don't drive in the "10 and 2 O'clock" position so it's very counter intuitive for me to use the paddles. I'm more of a "8 and 4 O'clock" position driver.
