I've got appointments with two different body shops on the 15th to have the car re-evaluated. I also called the local Toyota dealer body shop, but they were too busy with their own 300+ hail damaged cars to give me an appointment. Although all three of the people I spoke to at the body shops said the same two things: No one ever gets the initial estimate correct, and The insurance reps
always intentionally under estimate the damage. Example being my girlfriend's 2013 Juke that was parked right next to my FR-S during the storm. The Juke was estimated at ~$9K, less body damage than the FR-S but broken sunroof and water inside. Two days after dropping it off at the body shop that was going to repair it they called to tell her it was 'significantly more damaged' and would be a total loss.
The bumpers look pretty good (no dents, duh), but there's no point in washing the car now to check for scratches in them. (My paint is getting worse with the heat cycle of every day, I'll have to take pictures of how its now stress cracking.) The passenger side mirror cap is broken, and I'm also having to fight the insurance about using OEM tail lights. They gave me a line that, "Company policy is to only replace lights with factory parts if the car is under 12,000 miles and
current model year." I'm calling BS on that statement. The car had 2,6XX miles on it and I'd owned it for 78 days when the hail struck. I'd also bet money that every one of these cars built from 4/12 through the end of the MY 2014 production has the same part number for the tail lights.
