You should sign up for a HOD session there (with solid in-car instruction I think it is fine for a beginner; my first four track days were all there). Overall I'd say MRLS is not as fun as the other three tracks in our area (because there is only one corner complex), though it is still good with several interesting car control pieces. In the end it does have more walls to be careful of so it is one that is really good to have an instructor for. MRLS is actually a pretty forgiving track IF you react correctly to mistakes, though some places are famous for eating cars when people respond incorrectly. For me at this point, I don't think I would take vacation days to go there (which is why I am not signing up for the NCRC date).

Sonoma on the other hand has places where a mistake will probably put you into a wall, though it has some crazy awesome features (the Carousel is awesome and it has really well done esses).

Buttonwillow you might be able to get away with doing on your own the first time (I did), but I would recommend going with one of the well regarded marquee clubs first. The main benefit of going with marquee clubs is that they have in-car instruction for newbies (at least PCA does). I'm not saying that Buttonwillow doesn't have places that can eat a car, it just doesn't have as many and they are not as hungry.
