If so, what you're probably hearing is the faint whine of the gears as the synchros force the transmission input shaft up to a higher speed. Or in other words, it's normal, nothing to be concerned about.

I don't think it's that because it started fairly recently. Most times I don't even hear it because I have the radio going.
Maybe it is the A/C compressor running for a really short time? I wasn't running the A/C this morning and I heard nothing.
