I was able to add timing to my 86, I only use BP 98. Helps having a dyno so I have played with cams as well. I have found that when the iat goes up there is transient knock, I have removed more timing based on transient throttle. I found when I put the AVO cat back exhaust on I was able to add 1.5 degrees through all the load portions of the map even though the factory headers and cats are still in place.
