If I told you (or anyone else) that I didn't know how to swim, but wanted to learn, would you recommend that I avoid any and all contact with water until I learned how?
I hope you can see the catch 22.
If OP wants a little more power out of his car but doesn't know the difference between a wastegate and a BOV - I recommend diving in! Every cowboy has a first rodeo, and internal combustion knowledge isn't human instinct. Make mistakes, learn from them, and continue to build your knowledge and experience base.
No one knows it all. But if they claim to, disregard & run.

If the OP is willing to make the effort, time, and resources to do things right, then by all means, we are all willing to help out. Just to give you some food for thought, the turbo setup requires you to be quite proactive with your maintenance and troubleshooting. Why our client continues to run with no issues despite being turbo'd for this long is a testament as to how preventative work goes a long way. To this day, we haven't seen a turbo'd FRS/BRZ run full weekends and back to back to back weekends without any issues. It's just the nature of the beast, but when it works, my gawd it's nice.
And then there's the supercharger...yes...no issues have come about with our 6 months of testing, but the power output is not as exciting as the turbo.
