Here is the first video of the mysterious Toyota GT 86 that we showed you yesterday. Given the Toyobaru project was originally designed to be a budget sports coupe for driving enthusiasts, the carbon fiber hood, large air intakes and massive rear wing definitely caught our attention.

Our friends at TouriClips filmed a minute and a half of video footage showing the GT 86 prototype in action. This car is definitely something special. But figuring out what is going to be a tricky exercise of educated guesswork.

GT 86 chief engineer Tetsuya Tada recently said an updated 2016 model year caris being developed with a more powerful engine. However, this hardly seems like a production car. It's got more in common with the endurance race machines that Gazoo usually fields during the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

We might thus be looking at a club sport race car, like the IS F CCS-R built by TRD – turn key motorsport for the enthuziasts. With extensive modifications to the body and increased aerodynamic downforce, customers could experience the ultimate boxer-engined, Toyota-badged adrenaline injection within the next year.

The Japanese automaker already offers an entry-level sportscar called the GT 86 CS-V3, designed to comply with the V3 class of the VLN championship.

Speaking of Lexus, it too has made a hardcore car for the track, the LFA Nurburgring Edition, designed to set record lap times. After its debut, two mysterious LFA prototypes emerged for more testing, even sparking rumors of a turbocharged V8, which proved to be unfounded.
