It only goes to prove my long belief that Subaru never wanted to make this car and Toyota dragged them kicking and screaming to do so.
The boxer engine is great but it's a shame Subaru can't dissect a Porsche or Cosworth engine and learn how to make a proper NA'd boxer. The relatively weak performance of aftermarket parts and tunes tells me the FA20 must have some shitty flowing heads. I can only imagine if it weren't for Toyota's D4S this thing would be rated at 180hp/130tq. Probably no better than a 20 year old Celica GTS.
I'd like Toyota and Subaru to continue but it seems one or both have too much pride to maintain a professional partnership which is odd for the Japanese. If not, the next Miata, Bimmeryota or Honda will be here soon enough.
Even if Subaru doesn't want the car, it has opened the flood gates for enthusiasts of non fat frozen yogurt lighter weight RWD. For everyone else, there's plenty of fat pig Breyers V8s to pick from already.
