OP, I test drove a 2015 WRX and STI. I would go with the WRX hands down. If you want a sports car, get the 86. If you want an all-around car with some more punch, the WRX. If you want a properly boosted 86, get ready to pay more than an STI.
Head the mans advice. Also you are going to see a wealth of tuning option with the WRX that will push it past STI level performance. I will say this. You can always add more power down the line, but a solid chassis not so much.
