I have a similar dent on my passenger front fender. You can only see it if you're looking for it and if the light is just right. I doubt mine is a defect though. Someone could've leaned on it. I've dented my car in a similar way from the wooden heel of my dress shoes. I can't count the number of time's I've whacked the side of the door trying to get in and out of the car.
