A supercharger is not always creating boost. You can even give it a fair amount of gas before boost is created. Air going through it yes, but if you drive it on a normal street and keep your foot out of the gas, the car is pretty much going to drive like it did stock. You are worried about "Wear & Tear.. engine life..cooler engine... ect.." and none of that is going to be effected by a supercharger that isn't creating boost.
