Of course there are a few junk heaps with 90K that have been wrecked twice for $10K, too.
The S2000 is why I wanted to try the BRZ. I liked the car even though it wasn't fast. Mainly the things I didn't like about it were the lack of feedback from EPS (EPS has come a long was since) and I just wasn't really into convertibles. Too much road noise and the visibility with the top up wasn't very good.
So the BRZ seemed to me like it would be a lot like an S2000 only in a coupe with a little extra storage space.
So far I'm pretty happy with it, relatively. I would have liked to get my AP2 up to around 300 HP at the crank but as I recall you didn't get much HP without FI, and that seems to be the way to go with the BRZ. I wish the BRZ were 300 HP stock, but I really don't know how Subaru would do that. I really don't think a turbo suits a car like this, I would prefer predictable, linear power like from a supercharger. So, I guess that part is up to me.
If I were building a track car I'd probably start with one of those ratty AP1's for $10K.

Yeah I bought my 06 new for 31,500 otd (forgot what that meant on the car itself but approx 29k or so IIRC). Sold it 2 years later with 19k for 19,500. And it sat for AWHILE before moving. Values have gone back up now that you can't get a new one at or under invoice. And 2008 was a really bad time to sell any toy vehicle.
