I actually used the "newest" one that's posted here in the forums, and the crack that came with my cable. Then had to force install the drivers(xp drivers on a win7) then edit the registry for it to recognize the cable.

Could you please elaborate on how you edited the registry for it to work on win7? Are you using 64 bit?
