First off, thanks for the great articles, they've been a joy to read!
I'm sure you've probably already taken this into account, but I'd imagine a better set of tires would help it turn substantially quicker. A set of PSSs transformed the steering on mine (though to be fair, I went from the Primacies, to snows, and then to PSSs).
Given your area, I also highly recommend US 250 from Stuanton, VA to Huttonsville, WV, or thereabouts. I did that in lieu of the Dragon last year, and wasn't the slightest bit disappointed (the elevation changes are amazing... and quick).
