You'll need an assistant with a tape measure.

Pick a groove in the tire, put the "L" end of the tape measure in the groove against the tread block on the "front" side of the tire. Now read the measurement against the same groove on the other tire on that axle.

Repeat, but on the back side of the tire, at the same height as when you did the front side. The difference in front/rear is the toe you're seeing. Using a tape measure isn't perfect, but it'll at least tell you how much you're off if there was a change, and you'll always be able to zero out the toe using take measures.

Thrust angle is a different story, but this is more about "making it back home" without destroying your tires, or to do a quick spot check.


An alignment shop would be using a square rod instead of a tape measure, and scribing a line to measure with on the tires, for more precision.
