You dont need a flex fuel kit to run E85 but it does provide an extra level of safety if you were to fuel up with the wrong fuel the sensor will save you , and it would also save the hassle of having to flash an e85 or petrol tune each rime you changed fuel types.
Without a flex fuel sensor you just need to be carefull and give the car about 10 miles or so and watch fuel trims stabilise before getting aggressive when you change fuels , after flashing the appropiate tune obviously
Having a flex fuel sensor and flex fuel tune is certianly a better option, but if your sensible and take a bit of care you can do e85 without one with rhe appropiate OPEN FLASH TABLET tune.
