Yes, it is necessary for YOU. For most people, it's not necessary, but definitely good to have.
Under cornering, you will get oil that pools on the driver side of the engine, and pushed out the breather, into your intake tract.
If you have time, take off your intercooler or intake piping, and see if there is a layer of oil. I'll bet there is.
