if you've got $5k to spend on a trans, alright, but for 99% of people looking at the swap, particularly in a lightweight car, there's better, more affordable options out there

and I also never said "stock block", I said with the particular motor I'm using, 300whp happens with damn near stock everything, 400whp is attainable without much work, and then when you start getting into it you can crack 500 then start thinking about going 1.5j.

edit: and the inferior 1j? that actually kind of is the point, JZ engines aren't some exclusive club with a $20,000 entrance fee. 1jz, 1.5jz, and NA-T are all perfectly viable options, in fact they may or may not be better options depending on your budget and horsepower goals. I mean, come on, tuerck's FRS was built with an NA bottom end, and you can bet your ass he's not running a V160.
I was saying stock in regards to the FA20.

I chose the v160 because I wanted to stick with one trans and not have to worry about it grenading, or at least have much more peace of mind.

I still have much more stuff to buy but it's all being chosen when the motor goes in because it's all going to have to be custom sizing and routing.
