Scion FR-S sedan coming in 2016 with a turbocharged engine - report

FR-S Convertible due in October

There have been a lot of contradictory rumors about the Toyota GT 86 / Scion FR-S sedan and convertible but Motor Trend is reporting both are slated for production.

According to their sources, the company will introduce the FR-S convertible in October. This suggests the car could be the all-new model that Scion Vice President Doug Murtha recently confirmed for the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Regardless, the model was previewed by the GT 86 Open concept and speculation suggests it will weigh at least 60 lbs (27 kg) more than the coupe. While it is expected to use the familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine that develops 200 bhp (149 kW), it should have a retuned suspension to compensate for the added weight.

In 2016, the company is expected to offer a GT 86 / FR-S sedan. It will reportedly be 20 inches (508mm) longer than the coupe and have a 4 inch (101mm) taller roofline. While the car doesn't sound particularly roomy, one designer told the magazine it will comfortably seat four adults.

Power will reportedly be provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops more than 300 bhp (223 kW). There are also rumors about an all-wheel drive hybrid variant that could cost approximately $50,000.
