It is normal to have a softer/mushier pedal with less resistance at the top after doing this adjustment

And the gear indicator not showing up might simply mean you didn't adjust the indicator to register lower along with lowering the clutch pedal.

It is not supposed to look like that in the picture - the large white 'pad' is supposed to be lined up almost flush with the silver bolt. (a little tiny bit of white should show to make sure the selector is not pushing your clutch down)
